World Cup Of Darts
No it is not 90’s football, Netherlands and Scotland really are competing at the same level. This time it is in Frankfurt at the World Cup of Darts on June 1- 4. The tournament winners will now take home $300,000, which makes it a sought after trophy. Add in to it the factor that it is a team and national event, then a raucous darts crowd is going to be even more lively. The World Cup of Darts is gathering popularity every year it takes place.
England have been traditionally dominant with four of the last five wins. But they will be without powerhouse (pun intended) Phil Taylor as he misses the tournament for the first time in its history. Joining his padoan Adrian Lewis is Dave Chisnall. Scotland could be favourites in the derby meet up with Gary Anderson and Peter Wright channeling their inner William Wallace to fight of the English B*****s!
It is the era of the Flying Dutchman and they are represented by the best of the old and new in Van Barneveld and Michael Van Gerwen. On paper this is an intimidating team for sure. They are favourites at 5/4 with Scotland coming in second. I never thought I would say this but England are consistent, in this sport at least. Dave Chisnall is a good replacement but with tension always there in a dutch camp and Scotland used to failure then perhaps the new underdogs England could surprise, and make you a few bob! Have a punt on the Lions!
This derby has more than pride at stake with the biggest purse ever seen in Britain. $1.625 to be precise! With money like that on offer it is no wonder that two late entries pushed their way in at a cost of $85,000 each!
Even more exciting than all this is that there is a 1000/1 newcomer. Diore Lia has made just two appearance in her career, one of them finishing down the field at Lingfield. Topping all of this is the fact a apprentice jockey Gina Manden will also be taking the reigns. Trainer John Jenkins said of the stunt:
“If I didn’t run her, someone else would. The owner is keen to run her and has set up a charity. He’s there for the big day,” said Jenkins.
I had a runner in the Derby a long time ago. That was an outsider as well and it didn’t finish last.
Has there ever been a 1,000-1 winner of the Derby?
It should be noted that the horse is running on behalf of Great Ormond Street Hospital, and probably as a means to get a bit of PR. Well, its worked and it wouldn’t be race day if people didn’t have a punt at 1000/1 so that is our suggestion!
Stanley Cup Finals
Pittsburgh Penguins and the Nashville Predators go head to head in this best to seven violence on ice. Surprisingly Nashville aren’t the favourites, despite the cities fames Ice Rink culture which sits comfortably alongside country music and moonshine. All jokes aside Predators did impressively win the western conference. The Penguins squeezed through thanks to their unparalleled squad depth.
We probably haven’t written an easier prediction than this but it’s nice to have a different sport every now and then. They have skilled forwards, more than one choice in goal, and scary defensive abilities you need in the NHL. The Predators carry in a goalie on hit top form but thanks to the american system this is a game over seven and a goalie might save a game this one sided once. That is why we are going for a Penguins win, and a 4 – 1 result in the series. This will make the back to back champions. Could this be the start of a dynasty?
