England’s Ashes Chances
After a successful campaign against the West Indies England are now looking forward at an exciting Ashes series over Australia. It was up and down in the Windies series with the first game being a one-sided affair before Joe Root’s declaration backfired when the Carribean boys managed to chase down the 322 runs required.
While England has won the last 7 five day matches on home soil it is a different story abroad. It does not come much harder than Australia either. They have lost 14 of the last 22 away tests and that includes a 5-0 whitewash against the Aussies. They will be playing in peak summer in the outback and that could be yet another stumbling block for the English.
Betfair is offering 16-1 for another whitewash and while that seems tempting England show up with a young and hungry team. It is also the first Ashes series under Joe Root. England’s new captain will be wanting to prove himself more than anyone else. Both with his decisions and leading with the bat. He is enjoying good form with the willow and England will need him when they head to Oz at the end of the year.
Australia has been struggling against the likes of India and therefore will not likely post a brilliant 5-0 whitewash. Even Bangladesh has caused them significant problems. South Africa also came across the Indian ocean to win a test series 2-1 and upset the locals.
Nevertheless, Australia is best priced and favourites with the likes of Betvictor at 8/13 to win the series. England sits at 5/2 with the same bookmaker. The best odds can be found with Bet365 as they think a 3-2 tight win by England is worth 12/1. That would not only make it a lucrative match for us but great to watch too.
Champions League Odds and Tips
The Champions League draw for the group stages has been made and saw Real Madrid’s odds cut from 9/2 to 4/1. The holders have been drawn against Tottenham, APOEL and Monaco. Despite not being an easy group their odds shortened because their main rivals took a tougher draw.
Outside of the Galacticos Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG are all at 7/1. PSG will be gunning for the trophy after their huge transfer window which saw Neymar and Kylian Mbappe joining the Parisians. Barcelona will hope it hasn’t affected their team structure but their lineup will start to look more like the successful team of the past with the moving on of megastar Neymar.
The acquisition of Neymar single-handedly cut their odds from 12/1 to 7/1 so if you managed to get some money on then, congrats! For us though Bayern Munich is a much better bet. The seasoned Germans have been there and done and won’t be such chancers compared to PSG. Their group is pretty comfortable with both Anderlecht and Celtic.
From an English point of view, both Manchester clubs have benefitted the most. City has been overseeded by Shaktar Donetsk which will please them. United are with Basel, Benfica and CSKA Moscow which on paper is one of the easiest groups. Mourinho will be hoping his second season successes continue and a new look Manchester team with Lukaku and Pogba should take this opportunity to convert potential to succeed. You can find them as good as 14/1 with Betvictor. This could be the ticket to a big win and an English one.
If you don’t think it is an era for English football then the wise choice would be on Bayern Munich is Real Madrid doesn’t take you fancy. But having won the 3 in the last 4 they will be hard to beat.
